A Mountain of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season
The winter break present a wealth of activities far superior than catching up on the updates: unwrapping gifts, feasting on delicious food, and harnessing patience techniques to refrain from yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you succeeded in do all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling announcements surfaced during the holidays, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)
Truly the biggest piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they easily could have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. However, the key visual for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, by now, they could be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it still retained the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now everyone is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been going on for a while, and season 6 was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will very likely debut in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio known for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Shortly after the airing of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has yet to be revealed.
