Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
