Israelis have gathered around the country to mark two years since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations proceeded in Egypt over an end to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The assault saw over 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most fatal day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel reacted by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed in excess of 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are considered trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister added on Tuesday.

He also promised to "achieve all the aims of the war: the release of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will never again create a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership rescheduled formal commemorations until October 16th - after the end of the festive season - but events still occurred around the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was organized in the coastal city. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was aired across Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was held around the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, both sides' delegations gathered in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of indirect talks to discuss the terms of the plan.

A high-ranking delegate involved in the discussions indicated that an late session of negotiations started at 7 PM local time.

The official stated the morning session ended without significant progress, because of differences over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas demands to make certain Israel does not restart combat after the opening period of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "difficult and have not yet achieve any significant progress," but pointed out that mediators are making efforts to close the gaps between the both parties.

Key Issues in Negotiations

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies provision
  • After-conflict administration of the territory

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's memorial area earlier, young Hagar - whose sibling lived through the incident on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were murdered and dozens more were captured by Hamas gunmen - told: "No place feels like home any longer and until all the hostages return none of us will be secure."

"After we see all home returned, we can breathe anew. Then we can begin to rebuild," she continued.

In front of the prime minister's home in Jerusalem, people assembled to express their support for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel states 48 remain in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Demonstrator a participant explained: "We must do every compromise needed for the captives to be released. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be safe."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that around seventy percent of Israeli citizens want the hostilities to conclude in as payment for the liberation of the captives.

Gaza Situation

At the site of Nova festival, those paying respects assembled to honor the dead.

From there, the boom of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people indicated the severe Israeli shelling carried on.

In the urban center, bombardments were noted in the early hours of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, sector and Nasr areas and in the east side district of the community, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"Once the dusk arrives, the dread appears with it," displaced Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli bombing last year, described.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the bombings. All the night we are sleeping together, clinging, particularly my youngest child who puts his face on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we check the reports to see developments. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the war will return to us."

Health Situation

The medical facility in the urban area reported it had received the remains of half dozen people by the midday, including three killed in an Israeli strike in the southern area.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of the city reported another two fatalities had been delivered. One of them was lost his life by Israeli forces while seeking aid to the south region, medical staff said.

The region's health ministry reported twenty-five of the {territ
