Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Nation Apart

The star has revealed that she no longer feels appropriate to speak out against the Trump administration, worried it could worsen polarizing arguments and further divisions across the country.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains Lawrence

Speaking with media, the Oscar winner shared, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, celebrities fail to influence in any way on voter decisions.”

She continued, “Why continue? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the country apart.”

Political Evolution

Jennifer Lawrence has previously been open about backing conservative and liberal contenders in past elections. Raised by conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she supported the Republican nominee in 2008 before joining the Democrats and explaining she recognized during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was voting against her own rights as a female citizen.

Earlier Remarks

Several years ago, she stated that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a catastrophic event” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to Kamala Harris, “since I believe she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to protect abortion access.”

Celebrity Views

Lawrence was aligned with many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Trump as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the public choices was highlighted by the outcome.

“This upcoming term appears changed,” commented the actress of Trump’s presidency. “Since he made his plans clear. We knew what he did for four years. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”

Current Projects

The actor is currently promoting Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s drama in which she portrays a new mother who faces challenges with her emotional state in the countryside. During a media event for the film in Venice, Lawrence spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s mortifying. What’s occurring is no less than a genocide and it’s terrible.”

Broader Concerns

Lawrence added by stating that she was disappointed by “the lack of civility in the discourse of the political landscape at present and how that is going to be normalised to the children right now. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”

Lawrence attempted to refocus anger about the issue to leaders rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she remarked, in what many took to be a reference to the declaration supported by numerous entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with Israeli film institutions.

Individual Insights

Lawrence, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her role in the acclaimed film, is generating Oscar buzz for her work in the new film. Although Lynne Ramsay has rejected the narrative being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, she shared that she connected with parts of her film narrative after the arrival of her new baby, shortly after shooting ended.

“It was fear about my child,” she commented, “just picturing every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a drug called the prescription and I took it for a short period and it was effective.”

Film Challenges

Jennifer Lawrence also spoke of the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the project while she was expecting and limited physically.

“It’s refreshing,” she commented, of being forced to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
