LA Dodgers Hold On in Toronto to Force Winner-Take-All Game 7 in Fall Classic

This year's championship series is headed to a decisive Game 7 following the Los Angeles Dodgers kept their repeat hopes intact Friday night with a three to one victory over the Blue Jays in Game 6.

The reigning title holders ended Toronto’s ninth-inning rally with a dramatic game-ending double play, stunning a Rogers Centre audience that had come ready to cheer the city’s first title in over three decades.

Game 6 Summary

Los Angeles produced all of their scoring in the third inning. With two outs, Ohtani was purposely passed before Will Smith doubled to left to score Edman. Freddie Freeman drew a walk to load the bases, and Betts delivered with a two-run single to left, giving the Dodgers a 3–0 lead.

That key hit snapped a postseason slump and revived the title holders' aspirations of becoming the initial back-to-back World Series victors since the Yankees won three consecutive from 1998 to 2000.

Mound Duel

Kevin Gausman had been nearly unhittable to that point, fanning half a dozen of the initial seven batters he faced. He struck out 8 through three frames, tying a World Series record, but the third-frame rally proved decisive. The Blue Jays' star finished with eight strikeouts over six innings, yielding three runs on three safeties and two free passes.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, in contrast, was steady again under stress. The 27-year-old right-hander outdueled his counterpart for the second occasion in a week, allowing a single run on five hits over six frames with six strikeouts. He improved to four wins and one loss this postseason with a 1.56 ERA.

The only run against him came on Springer’s two-out single in the third inning, driving in Addison Barger, who had hit a double previously in the frame. That single provided a brief spark in his return to the starting nine after missing two games with an oblique injury.

Relief Effort

After that, the Dodgers’ bullpen took over. Rookie Justin Wrobleski got out of a jam in the seventh inning, and another rookie Rōki Sasaki worked into the ninth before plunking Kirk to open the inning. Addison Barger followed with a two-base hit that got stuck under the left-center-field fence, obliging base runners to hold at second and third base.

Glasnow, Los Angeles’ third game starting pitcher, came on in relief and induced a pop fly before Andrés Giménez hit a line drive to left field. Enrique Hernández caught the ball and fired to second base to retire the runner, sealing the win and giving Glasnow his first career successful save.

Looking Ahead: Game 7

The best-of-seven now boils down to one game. Max Scherzer will take the mound for Toronto, making him the sole active hurler to start more than one seventh games of the World Series after doing so in the 2019 season with the Nationals. The 40-year-old signed a single-season contract to chase one more title and has been a vocal leader throughout this postseason.

The Dodgers, aiming to become the sport's initial repeat champions in almost 25 years, are projected to rely on Shohei Ohtani for a short outing.
