Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in 2012 and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
