Both have been linked with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following the former manager's resignation on the start of the week.

The Manager's Position on The Scottish Club

The Ipswich boss referred to the Glasgow giants as "an enormous soccer institution" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they won just a handful of victories last campaign as they were demoted back to the second division and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.

"There have been such conversations," the London-born ex- Northern Ireland young player said when questioned about being on the candidate list.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my focus is this week.

"I have a special job here at a special team. And we're at a really important stage of the campaign. Everything outside of that hasn't touched my awareness."

Background and Contractual Aspects

It has been suggested that the manager would be willing to talk to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about those. "I don't think everyone has to go around and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive football club."

McKenna signed a fresh four-year contract in last year and was asked about his alleged £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he responded. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this job like I will remain Ipswich manager forever. I understand that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as long as I am here."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

Bellamy represented Celtic on temporary transfer from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh forward is minded to finish the current World Cup qualification, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Celtic job.

Wales are presently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and second-placed North Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and North Macedonia in November would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, due to a productive Nations League campaign, should they fail to end up Group J runners-up.

Given his present stance, Bellamy, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the play-offs at the earliest.
