The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad has only eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
